Francesco Totti takes selfie after scoring goal

The place of selfies has been a hot topic of debate recently and may lead to an even higher level of angst or approval following an incident on Sunday that is sweeping its way though the internet.

Whether it is the start of a new trend is yet to be known, but today Roma captain Francesco Totti couldn't resist bringing the self-portrait phenomenon onto the playing field.

Following his second goal of the game, which also held up as the equalizer against Lazio in a Serie A match, Totti veered off the path of what one would expect for a typical goal celebration and may have set an alarming new precedent going forward.

His display of appreciation also captured the crowd of delighted fans in the background, raising the question of whether a selfie, by definition, can consist of more than one person in the frame.

But thanks, or not, to Totti, the selfie has received another boost in popluarity.
