Girl charged with dangerous driving causing death after Kingston rollover

A 16-year-old girl has been charged with dangerous driving causing death after a rollover near Kingston, Ont., earlier this month left two teens dead and three others injured.

The four charges laid against the girl by Ontario Provincial Police include:

- Two counts of dangerous driving causing death.

- Two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

The girl is not being named by police due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

She was released on a promise to appear in court in Kingston on July 21, OPP said in a media release issued Monday.

Boy, 17, remains in hospital

Abigail Sutherland of Kingston, Ont., and Kevin Grant of South Frontenac, Ont., both 16, died after a Hyundai SUV rolled off Rutledge Road near the town of Sydenham, Ont., at around 10:45 p.m. on June 17.

A 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the driver and another 16-year-old girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The 17-year-old boy remains in hospital in serious condition, police said Monday.

Sutherland was a Grade 11 student at Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute, while Grant was in Grade 11 at Sydenham High School, according to the Limestone District School Board.

The other three teens also attended their schools, the board said.
