An eight-year-old girl died in a Monday evening house fire in the northeastern New Brunswick community of Canton des Basques.
The home on E. Breau Road was already completely on fire when the RCMP and fire crews arrived at about 5 p.m., Cpl. Stéphane Blanchard stated in a news release.
A family of six lived in the home. A 41-year-old man, 32-year-old woman and three children under the age of nine made it out of the home, said Blanchard.
The body of the girl who died in the fire was later recovered from the home.
The man is being treated in hospital for burns.
The Tracadie-Sheila RCMP are investigating the fatal fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but police do not believe it to be suspicious in nature, Blanchard said.
Firefighters from Tracadie-Sheila and Rivière-du-Portage/Tracadie-Beach responded to the fire.
