Global Interest For Isles Of Scilly Police Job

A job advert for a police constable on the Isles of Scilly has drawn applications from all over the globe - with the force's phone "red hot".

People from as far as Thailand, the US and Australia responded to the ad that was described as "quite possibly the most enviable policing post in the UK or even the world" on the force's Facebook page .

Sergeant Colin Taylor admitted he may have "overcooked the job advert," which thousands of people liked.

The message appealed for a candidate who would have "unflinching confidence to know what to do when you are alerted to an abandoned seal pup making its way up the main street".

The successful applicant would also have to "resolve to issue a parking ticket to your spouse so tactfully so as not find dinner in the dog thereafter."

Three stolen bikes were among a total of 57 crimes recorded on the Isles of Scilly between March 2014 and February 2015.

The force claimed the "phones were red hot at the weekend" with interest from Ukraine, Texas, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, the Philippines, Thailand, Spain, Greece, Australia and Italy.

Sadly, international hopefuls had their dreams crushed in the latest update, when Sgt Taylor revealed the deadline had passed and it was only open to serving officers from Devon and Cornwall Police.

But those around the globe still wishing they could "be rescuing goldfish, investigating fried eggs, competing with Lifeboat crews to make pasties" were left with a glimmer of hope.

Sgt Taylor signed off: "The next job advert will be in April 2016 or earlier if either Mat or I fail our mandatory yearly police fitness test later this morning."
