Golfer Lori Kane to get humanitarian award

The Canadian Red Cross announced today that professional golfer and Island native Lorie Kane will receive the 2011 Humanitarian Award for P.E.I.

The award recognizes her work with charitable organizations from children's charities to promoting access to sports. In all, she has raised $850,000 for a number of causes over the years from the ALS Society to KidSport.

The Red Cross also named UPEI business student Janelle MacMillan of Charlottetown the 2011 Young Humanitarian for P.E.I. MacMillan has volunteered in an orphanage in South Africa for the past few years.

Both awards will be presented on Nov. 22 during a dinner at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel.
