Gottingen Street alleged road rage incident results in charges

A man is facing charges after an alleged road rage incident on Gottingen Street Thursday evening that resulted in a driver being assaulted.

At about 7:10 p.m., Halifax Regional Police were called to the intersection of Gottingen and Portland Place for a reported assault.

The victim says he was on Portland Place and came to a stop sign at Gottingen Street. The man told police that after stopping, he was making his way slowly through the intersection when a pedestrian smacked the car. He said the pedestrian was angry the car was on the crosswalk.

The driver says he allowed the pedestrian to cross but when he went to pull away the pedestrian hit his car with a beer bottle.

As the driver stopped the car and attempted to call police, he says the pedestrian opened his passenger side door and assaulted him.

Police say the driver required medical attention.

The pedestrian has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and breach of probation. He was held in custody overnight and is expected to appear in court Friday.
