Halloween a year-round event for St. John's couple

Most people will be packing up the skeletons and ghosts this weekend, but for Ashley Hiscock-Druken and Paddy Druken, Halloween isn't just one day a year — it's every day.

Hiscock-Druken said their home looks Halloween-ready pretty much year round, including a coffee table shaped like a coffin.

"Our house pretty much looks like this all year round, minus the cobwebs and the few extra pumpkins and things that are around," she said.

Halloween isn't just the couple's favourite time of year; they went on their first date on Halloween, and now they celebrate their wedding anniversary on the haunted holiday.

Druken said no one was surprised by the wedding date when invitations went out.

"I think they would have been surprised if we didn't," Druken said.

The couple had to find a photographer who wasn't afraid of a spooky photo shoot in a graveyard. Once they had, Hiscock-Druken had to find a wedding dress.

And in case you couldn't guess, it wasn't the "classic" white.

The purple dress and unconventional decor still get lots of attention from the wedding industry, including a feature in an online bridal magazine.

"Almost every day people come up to us wherever we are and say, 'We've seen your wedding pictures, they're awesome,'" said Hiscock-Druken. "This is us and this is how we live, this is every day."

These two just love each other … to death.
