Not an easy problem to solve, here. Anything other than giving more $$ results in you being called a racist, so no wonder politicians don't have the balls to solve anything. Everything degenerates into some broken agreements reached 400 years ago, by some long-dead Englishmen. Maybe we should ask the UK for some cash?

What I don't understand is how a proud people, who were here long before the white man, can't seem to take care of themselves. How did these people live in -30c weather 300 years ago? How did they feed, educate and clean themselves before?
As long as someone is handing out white mans money and tools and electronics then I wouldn't refer to myself as 'native' or expect to be treated any different from a white man.
Get off your butts and take a little effort in your own care.
I am proud to be native but have embraced the white mans ways. I work beside my white brothers and sisters, payed with his money, eat his food, drive his vehicles etc., therefore I do not expect any special treatment. If I chose to stay on a reservation as a 'native' then I would live as my ancestors did and not as a white man. Give back the millions and only use what you absolutely need. Earth mother will provide to those who respect her.

White mans money? Where does that money come from? From the land shared by the Natives in the first place!

lol...who are you kidding, your no native, or your one sorry brainwashed potatoe, I can tell...how ignorant you are of the reality of the situation in these reserves...do you also think that if a farmer was "forced" into a tiny corner of his farm and was told to live as he used too that he would be successful and shouldn't expect any compensation or help? or that he should just go away? and Do you also think that if he did recieve compensation this poor farmer's family in the future should have to live as they did 200 years ago just because they didn't want to leave thier home? You are truly one of the most ignorant POSERS I have ever come across on the net.....get a life and quite pretending to be a native.

JAIL the council and Bob Rae. YES, it is the fault of the council and chief to have blown off that kind of money with no visible results.
      • A Yahoo User 5 months ago
Jail Bob Rae? For being an interim leader of a party you don't like? Boy does THAT sound like Fascism...
      • Rebel 5 months ago
No , jail him for treason

It is corruption pure and simple. It sounds like some country far away where the dictator lives high on the hog and the regular people live in slums. How was this allowed to happen? Those people deserve better!

The Chiefs get paid to keep the Natives from rebelling. We should give the money to the poor natives for the things they need and tell the rich Natives to pay taxes...
      • Rob 5 months ago
YOU should take a trip to Attawapiskat before you shoot off your ignorant mouth.
      • Rebel 5 months ago
Lets wait and see what the audit results will be . I would hazzard to guess it will shine a light on just who is at fault . I guess you that scares you rob .
    • gorgusjo  •  5 months ago
It is obvious that the government with all of its spending has forsaken the natives of Attawapisket

This is very sad :( We as proud people should be living of the land like we did many years ago, without any help from anyone...they have lost their way and forgotten about the past. Why not come together as a tribe and help build one another home.

since i am a tax payer,I do want an account of where 90+ million dollars went. And i want no excuses as to why that cant be done...Garaunteed they will never be able to follow all of the money as it seems to happen in a lot of reserves across this country...it is about time there is going to be an accountability of monies sent to these reserves....i know of at least 3 different reserves here in Alberta where ,on these reserves you have a split community..the haves and the have nots...not fiction..fact....and before you try and condemn me,yes i am a native..
    • Rebel  •  5 months ago
Lets just audit the Attawapiskat Reserve and see where the 90 million dollars actually went ! I would bet it was given to the band council . So , tell me mr bob rae .. who do you think is responsible you fool . The natives just want the money no questions asked and usless twits such as yourself think that is fine and they should have total control over my money . Then when crap hits the fan because of pure incompetance and theft , you want to blame it on the government . You are not fit to be on a town council let alone lead a federal party . You make me sick .
      • Vigilanteman 5 months ago
@rebel...i bet anything that they didnt get 90 million dollars...and i also bet you have never lived or stayed on a rez...so wat do you know happens on a rez,if you have never been on one...
      • A Yahoo User 5 months ago
Your blaming Bob Rae for this? He is not even the Opposition leader lmao!
      • Rebel 5 months ago
The money went to the band . Canadians as well as band members have everyright to know where it ended up . Nope , never lived on a rez.. spent all my working life paying for them though and I want some accountability !

Vowing action on anything other than the Deputy Minister(s) and Directors within the Dept is at best misplaced "Action". Given the millions we throw at the problem annually, the only proper action is to fire them all - stripping them of all normal gov't handouts following their dismissal - and then throw the Minister out of the Conservative caucus!

Interim Liberal Party Leader Bob Rae shot back, saying the government's response suggests that Attawapiskat is at fault for their problems.

"That response is a disgraceful response from the Government of Canada," he said, calling the situation an "embarrassment" to the country.
      • Rebel 5 months ago
Ya , I'll take that bet Martin .

Harper needs to follow the money. Investigate Chief and Council and big salaries on and off the reserve. Back home, we call it, "feathering your nest." That is, get as much money as you can while you can before you get voted out. First determine how much money you gave this reserve and then track it down. Where did it go? You will find many Aboriginal and White rats on the money trail because all of us like money.

this is what it takes to get the cons attention..what a bunch of boneheads(cons).they(cons)were warned a few times from the auditor general in the past 18 month.as usual, the cons are blaming the libs again.theres not enough buses in the TTC for harper to through people under.now the right-wing news(sun, nat post, and globe) are blaming the the people on the reserves.another bunch of yahoos(right-wing press).
    • A Yahoo User  •  5 months ago
By "action" Harper will talk a long time about something completely unrelated and pretty soon people will forget all about it...
    • Edgar  •  5 months ago
lol...here we go again with all the ignorant immigrants and non-natives crying about thier tax dollars (which they try to so hard to weasil out of paying anyway) being wasted compensating native people for having thier territory stolen....I say rip up all the treaties, give it all back and start taxing them, then the natives could charge market rates for the use of thier lands and resources and then there wouldn't be any poverty or service deficits; and, the ignorant immigrants and non-natives could quite whining about it. Problem solved!

Will our defense minister be kind enough to return the $30,000- spent on his fishing trip helicopter ride so Harper (who lied trying to save Peter's skin) can at least have a photo-op giving the money to the lady in the picture?
