Hercules C-130 returns safely to St. John's after warning lights

A plane with 17 people on board turned back to St. John's Monday morning after declaring an emergency.

The Hercules C-130 departed St. John's International just after 7 a.m., according to the St. John's Regional Fire Department.

However, it turned around a short time later after warning lights came on in the cockpit.

Airport and fire department emergency crews awaited the plane, which landed safely around 7:40 a.m.

It's believed a faulty sensor is to blame.
