Aleksey Osipenkov, taxi driver, denies racial slur

The taxi driver accused of hurling racial slurs at a woman and her two nephews appeared before a human rights hearing Wednesday, but denies ever making the comments or even picking up the family.

AlekseyOsipenkov’s appearance came one day after sheriff's deputies were dispatched to find him.

Osipenkov brought documents with him from provincial court where he was found not guilty of the same allegations.

The incident dates back to 2011. Javonna Borden and her young nephews, Jordan and Davhon Smith, say Osipenkov got angry with them after one of the boys sat in the front seat of his cab.

They say when Borden questioned him, Osipenkov told them to get out of his vehicle. They say that he then swore at them and used a racial slur.

Osipenkov told CBC News he wasn't even there, although the inquiry has taxi dispatcher logs that suggest he was.

Borden and one of her nephews clearly remember the roof light for Ospienkov's taxi, number 251.

The owner of Bob's Taxi, Kim DeMont, is also facing a complaint related to Osipenkov's alleged comments. She says unless there's proof, there's nothing she can do.

Osipenkov says the hearing is a waste of taxpayers' dollars.

Closing arguments in the inquiry are scheduled to begin Thursday.
