    Hundreds of caribou grazing on N.L. farm

    A herd of hundreds of caribou are frequenting a farm in Wooddale, just outside of Grand Falls-Windsor.

    Margaret Kailer is one of many people who come from many parts of central Newfoundland to get a glimpse of the spectacular sight.

    She’s been taking photos of their every move.

    “I walked up onto the field but I didn't go very far. I had my telephoto with me,” said Kailer.

    The woodland caribou first showed up near the farm field six years ago and every winter since then the number of visiting animals has grown.

    Now, it’s estimated that as many as 400 animals enjoy the grass and vegetables leftover after the fall harvest.

    Butting heads and rattling antlers – the caribou are putting on a show for people who happen by.

    “There's one huge one at the very back. He was lying down. I guess he's the father of the crowd,” said Kailer.

    Their temporary home provides food and safety because hunting is banned in Wooddale.
