Hurricane Guillermo forms in Pacific Ocean, possibly headed for Hawaii
Hurricane Guillermo is swirling in the Pacific and could be headed toward Hawaii.
The Category 1 storm has maximum sustained winds early Friday near 150 km/h with additional strengthening forecast during the next two days. Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center say Guillermo could become a major hurricane this weekend.
Earlier Friday, Richard Pasch, a senior hurricane specialist, said Guillermo is headed in Hawaii's general direction but it's too early to tell if there will be any danger to land.
The hurricane is centred about 2,525 kilometres east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii, and is moving west-northwest at 28 km/h.
