Idle No More protesters interrupt meeting between chiefs, feds

Ilde No More protestors push their way inside the TCU Centre in Saskatoon to get into an education meeting between First Nation cheifs and federal officials.

Tensions ran high at a Saskatoon convention centre Friday afternoon as Idle No More protesters tried to push their way into a meeting between First Nations chiefs and federal officials.

The two sides were meeting at TCU Centre to discuss a controversial education bill.

Protesters tried to get in, but were kept out by security.

"This is not a consultation," said one of the demonstrators. "They're not consulting anybody. They're telling people exactly how it is. We're locked out. This is an oppressive measure to keep out the people."

Two chiefs managed to defuse the situation and protesters were finally allowed in to observe the discussion.

Several other chiefs also said they do not like the way Ottawa is handling First Nations education.
