Ignatieff courts Alberta voters

Federal Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff says he is confident his party can make inroads in Alberta.

Ignatieff was in Calgary on Friday and made a stop in Canmore on Saturday in a bid to drum up support for the party.

"I've said all the time that Albertans want competition in their political system, and we aim to give them a political alternative at the next federal election," he said while speaking in Calgary.

Ignatieff refused to comment on the future of the Alberta Liberal Party following the resignation of leader David Swann, saying he is not interested in getting involved in local politics.

"The one thing I know — it's even more important than ever that Albertans at the next federal election … have an alternative to Stephen Harper's Conservatives."

Ignatieff applauded Swann's stance on health care, saying a strong system is also what the federal Liberals are promoting.
