Selinger set to unveil Manitoba cabinet

Tue Nov 3, 11:40 AM

WINNIPEG (CBC) - Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger will unveil his first cabinet Tuesday afternoon at the legislative building.

A press conference has been called for 2:30 p.m. CT.

One of the most high-profile changes will be made to the position of finance minister.

Selinger had held that post since the NDP came to power in 1999. It became vacant when he resigned in early September to enter the party's leadership race.

He and fellow MLA Steve Ashton campaigned to be the party's next leader and premier after Gary Doer announced on Aug. 27 that he was stepping down.

The next day, he was appointed Canada's next ambassador to the U.S.

Selinger was chosen as Doer's successor by party delegates at a leadership convention on Oct. 17.

The justice portfolio is another key position to watch, with speculation swirling that the current minister, Dave Chomiak, will step aside.
