ST..JOHNS (CBC) - The three main political parties in Newfoundland and Labrador have picked candidates for a byelection to replace a cabinet minister who stepped down earlier this fall.

Sandy Collins won the Progressive Conservative nomination on Tuesday night. The other candidates are Robin Brentall, who will run for the New Democratic Party, and John Baird, for the Liberals.

Former health minister Paul Oram resigned the seat in October, citing medical reasons and a frustration with media scrutiny.

A date for the byelection in the district of Terra Nova in central Newfoundland has yet to be set by Premier Danny Williams.
