Indoor Santa Parade cancelled this Christmas
Santa Claus will not be coming to (down)town this year, as the indoor Christmas parade has been cancelled after 26 years.
"It’s getting to be a little more expensive,” said Jim Taylor, executive director of the Downtown Business Association.
“We have very little interest in new entries, we're having trouble getting people (to come). You know, it's just one of those things that's really reached its time.”
Taylor said the parade, which wound through the corridors and pedways of City Centre Mall and adjoining buildings, took over 200 volunteers and $40,000 to put on every year.
He also said that changes in the mall have made the parade a burden on some of the businesses.
Taylor said the association is considering taking the parade outside in 2015, but says moving outdoors presented too many hurdles to set up in time for this year's holiday season.
“Our parade is not transferable to outside because it's, you know, ballerina dancers and a lot of small kids and bands and things like that,” he said.
If the parade moves outdoors, Taylor says cold weather might force them to move it up from its usual date in December.
