A man has died while working on an excavation project at a residential property in Mississauga.
Peel Regional Police were called to the scene on Camilla Road, near North Service Road and the Queen Elizabeth Way, at 12:15 p.m. on Monday.
Const. Fiona Thivierge told CBC News that a homeowner had hired a contracting company to excavate around a building on Camilla Road.
The precise circumstances of the worker’s death were not immediately clear, but police say the victim became trapped between the home and a machine at the site.
Sgt. Pete Brandwood later confirmed to CBC News that the 56-year-old man had died.
Both police and the Ministry of Labour are investigating. The victim’s family has been notified of his death.
There have been a spate of industrial worker fatalities in the Greater Toronto Area in recent months.
In June, a roofer died after a fall at a job site in Toronto’s Forest Hill neighbourhood.
The following month, a man was killed in Markham when a cement truck overturned on him.
And last month, a TTC worker lost his life when he was hit by a subway maintenance train outside Yorkdale station.
