Integram workers vote to strike

Employees at Integram Seating in Lakeshore have voted 95 per cent in favour of going on strike, if necessary.

Both the CAW and management have been holding preliminary meetings regarding contract negotiations. They'll formally exchange proposals later in the week.

Fran Lasorda is second vice president of CAW Local 444, representing the workers. She's optimistic that a strike can be averted. Lasorda says a key is issue is job security for the 850 workers there.

"The job security issues are key issues; getting a letter in place to [ensure] future investment for the facility," Lasorda said.

The Integram plant makes seats for Chrysler's minivans built at the Windsor Assembly Plant.

The current contract expires Nov. 11.
