Iran postpones vote on banning oil sales to EU

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's parliament has postponed a vote on a bill requiring the government to immediately halt crude oil sales to Europe, an Iranian lawmaker said Sunday.

The ban would be a response to the EU's decision to stop importing Iranian oil and freeze assets of its central bank.

The EU decision last Monday was the latest attempt to pressure Iran over its nuclear program. The U.S. and its allies believe it is aimed at developing nuclear weapons. Iran says its program is for peaceful purposes.

Lawmaker Ali Adiani Rad is quoted by the semiofficial ISNA news agency as saying lawmakers need experts' views before they vote on the ban.

Because of the significance of the step, Rad was quoted as saying, "Lawmakers proposing the bill believe the legislation should be put on agenda after strong expert evaluation is obtained."

Rad said no date has been set for a vote.

Many Iranian officials have called for an immediate ban on oil exports to the European bloc before the EU's ban goes into full effect in July, arguing that the 27 EU nations account for only about 18 per cent of Iran's overall oil sales and would be hurt more by the decision than Iran. China, a key buyer of Iranian crude, has criticized the EU embargo.

Ahmad Qalebani, director of the National Iranian Oil Company, said his company is ready to cut off oil sales to Europe at any moment.

Qalebani told the semiofficial Mehr news agency Sunday that Iran can find new customers for its crude oil, but some European refineries will find it technically problematic to switch to non-Iranian crude.

Oil prices will rise regardless of what happens due to greed and greed alone. Other arab nations did say that they will step up production to prevent any increase in oil prices. But the price will go up regardless. Canada should run a pipeline from east to west and supply their own country with stable fuel prices and sell what we don't need. This will create a secure and safe energy security while increasing our economy and more jobs right across our nation. We do not have to import oil from any other nations where they would increase the cost because they can. We then become more stable, better groth with a secure future. I dare our politicians to look and secure our future long term with vision. DARE YA! The same can be said for natural gas..Canada Rocks!!!

just another excuse for the oil companies to raise the price of gas at the pumps it will probably happen the day before next payday. That seems to be the norm.

You're right, Tazz. Oil companies raise prices in anticipation of possible problems. They do not refund anything when the problems don't happen, though. Surprise!

Even if the Arabs step up production, the oil will be very very poor quality. Arab countries are already pumping at near maximum capacity. The oil embargo on Iran will have a negative impact on everyone except the oil companies who will profit from higher gas prices.

If Europe is on the verge of financial collapse, how are they going to pay for this oil? Let me see……borrow from the Federal Reserve? Now that’s funny!!

Better to deal with China, they'll pay cash. With Europe you don't know if you'll ever get paid.

I think there are Thoughts behind this is issue, West has the economic crisis And needs money and with Increase taxes (or else) he want To offset he's budget deficit. what happen if the dont buy 20% oil from Iran? maybe a little oil price rise but They increase the price of gasoline Two to three steps. So this vote of EU is against of own People and benefit of rich people.

The lengths the world will go to serve their Zionist masters! Iran is bad, but there are worse and more dangerous threats. Amazing that the NK nukes aimed at the US don't seem to matter, but threats to Israel and the US is shaking in their boots!

Hats off to Iran. They finally figured out how to deal with those arrogant penniless butt kissers. On the other hand everybody should mind their own business. Iranians are not telling us what to do, so why do we think that we have any right to interfere in another nation's affairs. Everyone should keep in mind that 99% of us know what we think we 'know' about Iran and other "unfriendly nations" from the mainstream media. Now I don't have to tell that these "information providers" are hardly independent and impartial. Just out of curiosity try googling "six jewish companies that own 96% of the world's media". So what do we really know about these people and how much of what we think we 'know' are actual facts and how much is what we were fed by these outlets? I'm neither antisemitic nor pro-iranian, I just think that we hardly ever get to hear the other guy's story and still we all have strong opinions about those "unfriendly nations".

I hope that one day Iran bombs China. That will be the thank you they'll give to the Chinese for their business, and they'll deserve it.

Exclusive: Saudi oil boost could calm markets: Senator Schumer
