Jennifer Aniston Nixes 'Friends' Movie Idea, But Is A TV Reunion Possible?

It's been eight years since the last cup of coffee was sipped by Rachel, Ross, Phoebe, Monica, Chandler and Joey at Central Perk on "Friends" - and if Jennifer Aniston has anything to say about it, it will stay that way - unless her five former co-stars agree to a reunion on TV.

The star was asked about a possible reunion for the characters - a TV special or big screen version of the popular series has been talked about since the sitcom ended in 2004 - something Jen doesn't see happening.

"No, there will be none," the actress told MTV News. "I don't think so. ... Wouldn't that be weird?"

Adding, "I would be like, 'Oh god, why did they do that?'"

Jen spoke out further on the "Friends" reunion idea to The Hollywood Reporter, saying a big screen version wouldn't work.

"'Friends' is in your living room; 'Friends' is not in a movie theater. It doesn't make sense to me. I think it would be going against its authentic self," she told THR.

She was open to the possibility of a TV endeavor though.

"It would probably take those five actors and be somewhere where we left off," she said of her former co-stars. "I loved what I did for 10 years; it was pure joy and nothing but fun, and it'd be hard to top it. The way we sort of felt the excitement of what 'Friends' was when it started, it would have to be something where you felt a similar charge. But I'll never ever say never.

Earlier on Wednesday, the 43-year-old "Wanderlust" star was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where Access Hollywood correspondent Tim Vincent caught up with the actress, who was joined by dad John Aniston, Adam Sandler, Kathryn Hahn and Malin Ackerman.

"It's a real big honor," Jen said of her star, explaining that as a Los Angeles native she has always been enamored with the Hollywood landmark. "Never did I put it mind my mind that that would be me!"

Why can't anyone come up with an ORIGINAL idea anymore?
      • Robart 3 months ago
This generation has no imagination. If you recall this was the generation where parents gave trophies to all of the participants so they wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings. Mediocrity is the goal of these kids. They borrow ideas for movies and music and ruin them.

Uhhh people the main reason why it is so difficult to come up with an original idea or storyline for tv shows or movies is that idea is practically guaranteed that it has been done before. So i say to "Yahoo user" come up with your own "original idea" for a storyline and see how many times that idea has been used before!

There is a lack of creativity in Hollywood today and they always just bank on the nostalgia of bringing back old favorites. I'm glad Jennifer Aniston at least realizes it. A Friends movie would be forced, would make a lot of money because zealous fans would come out to watch it, but they will all leave the movie house unsatisfied and ripped-off. With all the flops of the many revivals we've had, why are producers and directors not satisfied with what has happened already? Are they hell bent on murdering every single TV classic?

I agree with you 100%. Thumbs up.

Besides, it would be odd to see actors now well into their 40s playing the same characters they did nearly two decades ago.

While I loved Friends, I'm reminded of a quote from director John Waters; "WHY is Hollywood so obessesed with remaking good movies? They should be remaking BAD movies!"

Leave it alone. No reunion show. They rarely work, and they usually destroy the memories of good shows.

all the great shows have a reunion sooner or later. I say wait a full ten years and have one. Nothing wrong with a little trip down memory road. Kinda like the cast from a fish called wanda getting back together. no big deal, the actors play well off each other, look at it that way instead of being addicted to the caracters in a show. Just a bunch of 'friends' (see what I did there, lol) getting back together for the fans and themselves. lighten up folks..

I thought the show was boring and seldom watched it. The best part was Hugh Laurie's tiny role.

      ...

Oh and I'd totally hit that. .. not that I'd ever get the chance but... she's on my laminated list.

Doesn't it work the other way around? Have a movie first and then do a spin off? Kind of like MASH?

I agree that making FRIENDS movie would be a bad idea. I would like to see a reunion show someday.

Friends is one of my favorite shows. I would love to see a reunion show to see what they are all doing, if Phoebe is still married to Mike and has kids. How Monica and Chandler are doing with their twins and if Joey is married and Ross and Rachael got married and stayed married and had more babies????
    • Robart  •  3 months ago
Please nix the television version to please. Get over it and move on.

Anybody else sick of the neutered white male on tv? You know the helpless wuss of man who gets bossed around by his mother, wife, girlfriend, or some loud rude in your face minority? Far too many Elton John's on tv today and not enough John Wayne's.
    • Robert  •  3 months ago
Of course a reunion show, but that's it.
    • Jersey Boy  •  3 months ago
Reunions always wind up disappointing. I hope they don't do a reunion show. I sure wouldn't pay to see it in a theater.
    • Morey  •  3 months ago
She dont need to do it, she has a full slate of movies and projects and plenty of money and work planned. Now if she didnt have that, I guarantee you she would be open to doing a movie, reunion show, or even a return of the series for a few more years!

Look at Sarah Jessica Parker, her career wasnt going very well when she agreed to do a Sex In The City movies and it's sequel. But she needed the work and the money, that's the difference!

Sounds loike she's holding out for the big dough.
