Kenyan student believed drowned in B.C. lake

Search and rescue crews are scouring a lake east of Vancouver for a young man believed to have drowned.

Police say a 24-year-old international student from Kenya went under the surface in Kawkawa Lake, near Hope, B.C., at around 2 p.m. PT on Sunday.

"People were sort of playing games around the floating dock out on Kawkawa Lake, and that's all we know so far. We're still in the process of taking statements," said RCMP Const. Tracy Wolbeck.

"We have a search and rescue diver in the water … and if they're unable to recover him by [Sunday] night then we'll have the RCMP dive team out first thing in [Monday] morning."

Wolbeck said there is a Bible camp located in the area, but it's not clear if the young man was attending the camp.
