Two Thunder Bay, Ont., men are facing a number of charges following a kidnapping Monday night in which a man was dragged from a bus terminal and forced into a vehicle, police say.
Thunder Bay police said that just before 8 p.m., two men entered the Greyhound bus terminal and dragged another man out, pushing the victim into a truck with a waiting driver and driving off.
Less than 30 minutes later, police received a phone call from White Park Road, in the rural area around John Street and Mapleward Road, where the victim had escaped his captors and was banging on people's doors asking for someone to call police, saying he feared for his life.
Shortly afterward, police arrested two suspects at the Can-Op gas bar on Oliver Road. Police have confirmed the victim and the accused know each other.
Two men, 40 and 29, are charged with kidnapping, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and assault.
Acting Det. Insp. Don Lewis said the kidnapping was drug-related. He alleged that the "purpose of contact" between those involved was a quantity of "magic mushrooms," a hallucinogen.
"There was mention of a third male but we're still investigating that — as far as who that may be and what part, if any, that male played in this investigation," Lewis said.
The 21-year-old victim has also been charged with a drug-related offence.
