Langley basketball player gets full scholarship to play for North Carolina State University

A Langley, B.C. high school basketball player has been given a full scholarship to play for the North Carolina State University's Wolfpack team.

Aislinn Konig — nicknamed 'Ace' — was a senior basketball player for Brookswood Secondary in Langley and was just named this year's female high school player of the year by Basketball B.C.

"I've been working to get this scholarship for about five years," said Konig, adding that it's hard to explain the level of joy and excitement.

"You feel fulfilled. You're super excited and want to get to work," she said.

She's already got the ball rolling, taking summer courses at the university.

"I'm super excited to be starting on a new path," she said.

It seems Konig was destined to play basketball. Both her parents played the game and even her grandfather still plays.

"It is kind of in the blood," she said, "It's something I don't think I could've gotten away from, even if I tried."

The young basketball player has been called a female Steve Nash, but she doesn't see it that way.

"It's an awesome thing to be called," she said.

"But I don't really accept that as the truth because I haven't exceeded what he has done or even matched it."
