Laval silk plant fire out

Dozens of firefighters were called to a fire in Laval, north of Montreal.

Several buildings were evacuated in Laval Wednesday after a major fire ripped through a warehouse.

No one was injured in the fire that started at 10:30 a.m. on Le Corbusier Boulevard at Plantes et Décors Véronneau, a business that manufactures artificial and silk plants.

Laval fire chief Claude Lussier said several surrounding businesses were evacuated as flames spread throughout the large industrial building.

Forty firefighters were called from six fire stations to extinguish the fire.

Authorities said large plumes of smoke that billowed from the site were not toxic.

Police closed several streets in the area north of Highway 440 and east of Highway 15.
