A Leduc, Alta., family says they're struggling with not knowing how their son died while on a trip to Thailand this winter.
Alain Briand said his son Nathan loved to travel. The 27-year-old worked as a pipefitter during the summer, which allowed him to go overseas every year.
Nathan left for Thailand in December. His parents got a call from police on Jan. 24, saying Nathan had been found dead near a waterfall outside the town of Pai.
Alain said police suspected Nathan had fallen and drowned.
But now, weeks later, the family still isn't sure what exactly happened.
"In the end, he's gone. It's hard not knowing what it is that took him," Alain said. "But he lived life. He lived life full. He lived life on the edge."
Alain said Nathan's remains are on the way back to Alberta.
The family plans to hold a funeral for Nathan next week.
