Mélanie Roy, Quebec daycare educator, faces sex charges
An elementary-school daycare educator in Quebec City who allegedly used a computer to obtain sexual favours from a 12-year-old boy is facing charges of luring and invitation to sexual touching.
Mélanie Roy, a 36-year-old mother, was arrested Thursday morning at her apartment in the Charlesbourg neighbourhood of Quebec City. Police seized electronic equipment from her home.
She is accused of communicating with the presumed victim between March 2 and April 8 and allegedly inviting him to "touch her and to touch himself."
Roy appeared briefly in court on Thursday before receiving a conditional release. She is not to be in public places frequented by children, like schools, daycares and public pools.
She is also not permitted to work or volunteer with children, and she is not allowed to use the internet.
The director of the elementary school, École primaire de la Farandole in Beauport, issued a statement to parents informing them that a member of the staff had been arrested.
The educator was suspended by the school a month ago. She had been at the school for a year, and had worked for the Premières-Seigneuries school board for three years.
Roy will be back in court Aug. 26.
