Madawaska Bridge in Arnprior reopened after flooding, OPP say

The Madawaska Bridge off Madawaska Boulevard in Arnprior, Ont., has been reopened after it was flooded and closed to traffic Thursday morning.

The flooding, believed to have been related to a broken water main in the area, occurred at about 9 a.m. Thursday.

The water on the bridge off Madawaska Boulevard made for dangerous driving conditions, leading OPP to close the bridge as a safety precaution.

"Public works employees are on scene now examining the area and determining exactly what the problem is," said Renfrew OPP spokeswoman Janice Sawbridge.

"It's one of the only ways to get across town in the town of Arnprior, so unfortunately the detour from one side to the other will be travelling out to Highway 17 and then crossing to the other side of town."

No injuries have been reported.

The town of Arnprior said in a media release that that broken water main is is on Madawaska Boulevard between Moe Robillard and Bridge Street, and that water service in the area is expected to be disrupted until about 5 p.m. Thursday.
