Canadian officials seized 16 firearms from an Alberta man last week as he tried to cross the border from the United States.
The 48-year-old was driving through the crossing at Carway, Alberta, when Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers inspected his truck and flat-deck trailer on Aug. 9.
The firearms — nine handguns and seven long guns — were hidden in the contents of the trailer, along with magazine clips and a silencer, officials said.
RCMP arrested the man, who was later charged him with numerous offences and fined $11,500.
The man was released on several conditions after his Canadian passport and U.S permanent resident card were seized.
His first court appearance was scheduled for Sept. 19 in Lethbridge.
