Man dies of injuries from Easter weekend bar fight
A 44-year-old Saskatoon man has died following a fight in the parking lot of a Martensville, Sask., bar on the Easter weekend. A suspect is currently facing assault charges and police say more serious charges may follow.
According to RCMP, the case began as an assault investigation when officers went to the Adobe Inn on Centennial Drive S., in Martensville, around 1:30 a.m. CST on April 5.
They found the 44-year-old man unconscious, with a head injury. He ended up in intensive care at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.
RCMP reported Monday that the victim succumbed to his injury and died in hospital Saturday morning, about three weeks after the parking lot altercation.
The suspect in the case, a 20-year-old man from Martensville, was charged with aggravated assault on April 8. RCMP said their investigation included reviewing video from security cameras inside and outside the bar. They also interviewed a number of employees and patrons.
RCMP said prosecutors have been updated on the case and the death of the victim may lead to a more serious charge.
The accused in the case is set to appear in court in Martensville May 19.
