Man faces 3 attempted murder charges after trailer destroyed by fire

Elderly woman struck, killed by vehicle in Caledon

A Kingston, Ont., man is facing three attempted murder charges after he allegedly set fire to a trailer in a trailer park on Saturday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police say they were called to a trailer park on Bath Road in Millhaven, Ont., just outside of Kingston, at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.

When officers and firefighters arrived they found a trailer engulfed in flames, OPP said in a media release issued Saturday.

The suspect had allegedly entered the trailer and assaulted a man and a woman, then set fire to the trailer, OPP said. It's not yet clear whether they were inside the trailer when the suspect allegedly set it ablaze.

The woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The trailer was destroyed and two nearby vehicles were damaged.

A police canine unit was called in and the 45-year-old suspect was found and arrested about 200 metres east of the scene.

The suspect is facing charges including:

- Three counts of attempted murder.

- Arson with disregard for human life.

- Breaking and entering with intent to commit an indictable offence.

- Criminal harassment.

- Uttering death threats.

- Eight counts of failing to comply with a recognizance.

- Theft of a motor vehicle.

He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday in Napanee.
