Manchester Pub plans to open March 12 after flooding

Repair work at The Manchester Pub continues Monday after the downtown pub was flooded by a water main break eight days ago.

The Ouellette Avenue establishment sustained extensive damage after water tore open large parts of the ceiling, drenching the floor and furniture.

The pub's staff is working with contractors to speed up the repairs, said Jeff Garrett, The Manchester's general manager.

"We're all struggling for money right now, not being open, not working," said Garrett. "This is our livelihood. We all have people out here full-time and this is what they count on for work, so we've had them in here doing sanding and painting of some of the stuff that was damaged."

Garrett said the pub's extensive collection of sports memorabilia survived the water damage.

"It's really good," he said. "We've been lucky. The insurance is going to have all our stuff dry cleaned and sent back to us. So we'll be able to hang it back up and it'll look better and fresher than ever."

The pub's insurance company has not yet provided a damage estimate.

The Manchester is aiming to re-open by March 12.
