Manitoba man dies after plunge from bridge into Ontario's Lake of the Woods

Ontario Provincial Police in Kenora say a 48-year-old Manitoba man has died after jumping from the Keewatin Bridge into Lake of the Woods in Kenora, Ont. on Sunday evening.

Police said Brian Allarie was immediately located in the water, but was suffering life threatening injuries.

He was taken to the hospital, but died shortly after as a result of the injuries sustained in the fall, police said.

Foul play is not suspected.

"It was determined through investigation that the death was accidental," said Const. Laurie Harkof with the Kenora detachment of the provincial police.

Allarie was from Île-des-Chênes, Man., according to police.

He was reportedly on the bridge with friends.

"We would like to remind people that, as well as being extremely dangerous, it is also an offence to jump off any bridge into navigable waterways," said Harkof.
