Worker's arm severed on Quebec-Ontario Ferry

A man's arm was severed while moving in the new cable ferry in western Quebec that will soon take drivers between Quebec and Ontario, Outaouais police say.

MRC des Collines police said the man, 33, was injured at about 11 a.m.

Police say the man, who was an employee of the ferry, had his right forearm severed by a cable that broke. It happened while the man was on the deck of the new cable ferry as it was being moved in.

The man was taken to a Shawville, Que., hospital but he will be transferred to another hospital for surgery, police say.

Transport Canada will lead the investigation into the incident. Regular ferry operations were not disrupted.

The ferry currently runs with diesel but the company is in the midst of replacing it with a new cable ferry that will run across the Ottawa River between Fitzroy Harbour, Ont., and Quyon, Que.
