Medical records found outdoors in Richmond Hill

Ontario's privacy commissioner is investigating after confidential medical records were found lying on a street in Richmond Hill.

Most of the documents are records of patients of a doctor whose office is located in the Yonge Street and Major Mackenzie Drive area. The office is just a block from where the papers were recently found.

The doctor told CBC News that he learned of the incident on Wednesday morning but did not offer further comment.

Brian Beamish, the province's acting privacy commissioner, told CBC News that health records are supposed to be destroyed when they are no longer used.

Beamish said staff from his office have been dispatched to pick up the remaining records.
