Medicinal pot workshop coming to Calgary

Calgarians interested in learning how to grow medicinal marijuana can attend a seminar this weekend on the subject.

Don Shultz, who founded GreenLine Academy, has spent the last year criss-crossing Canada, hosting weekend-long workshops.

He brings his two-day seminar to the University of Calgary on July 14 and 15.

“We are just into education. It’s not a pot party,” Shultz said.

According to the GreenLine Academy’s website, the workshop includes instruction about the therapeutic effects of cannabinoids and the latest on legislation and Health Canada policies for legally growing pot.

“We will teach you how to start a new business that complies with all Canadian laws. Plus learn about all the latest techniques, tools, and skills to manage your own legal medical marijuana grow operation,” the website says.

The business of growing pot for those who are sick is something Kelowna-based Shultz said he takes very seriously.

“We provide professional and reliable information on the legal possession, consumption and production of medical marijuana though seminars, consulting and courses,” Shultz says on his website.

But according to Wayne Brown, a building regulations coordinator for the city, it’s nearly impossible for a residential marijuana growing operation to comply with all the relevant safety codes.

“I don't think they're going to get it right, and in my opinion Health Canada went about it the wrong way,” he said.
