When he was eight years old, Matthew Stapley says he realized he had a unique ability. He was on the phone with his dad, who was travelling in Thailand.
Stapley was at home in Carleton Place and says images started to flood his head.
“I said, ‘Dad, what are those elephant tusks doing on the table beside you and what are these pictures on the wall?’” Stapley said. “It just freaked him right out.”
Since then he says he’s been honing his psychic abilities and is now what he calls a psychic-medium — one who attempts to communicate with “the other side.”
Stapley is putting on a show this Saturday at the Ottawa Little Theatre (400 King Edward Ave.), where he says he will read certain audience members’ “auras” and attempt to connect them with a “spirit guide” or a loved one who has passed on to the afterlife.
A portion of the ticket sales will benefit Operation Come Home, an Ottawa-based charity that reconnects homeless young people with their families.
“What I hope to do is walk directly up to people to give their message and not stand at the front of the room,” Stapley said.
“It has happened where people have had a really profound reaction in the audience … but it’s not something I strive for.”
Saturday’s show will be a fast-paced, uplifting experience, he said. It opens with a motivational talk about spirit by guest speaker Jennifer Clark.
