The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts are hoping their battle with Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador (HNL) will soon be resolved.
A meeting to discuss the ongoing dispute over the Herder championship is scheduled for Thursday.
On Monday night, more than 100 people, many of them dressed in black Cataracts gear, showed up at a public meeting in Grand Falls-Windsor to show support for the team.
HNL has decided the Herder finals will be played in either St. John's or Corner Brook, regardless of which teams are playing. That's not going over well in Grand Falls-Windsor, which is home to the defending senior hockey champs.
But Cataracts director Barry Manuel says he has documents that prove the decision was never voted on. He hopes it will be reversed later this week.
"We're looking forward to finally having our day in court, so that we can sit down — and not only sit down and fight for your rights, because that's the obvious argument — but we've got ideas (to share)," Manuel said.
Roger Barnett — who resigned from his position on the board of HNL last week — says there's reason for hope.
He's says he's been speaking to HNL's executive, and he's optimistic about this week's planned meeting.
"I believe it will be resolved on Thursday," Barnett said.
There's talk of protests and boycotts of the Herder finals if the series is restricted to St. John's and Corner Brook.
