Michael Moore wants actor Matt Damon to run for US president

Washington, Aug 9 (ANI): Filmmaker Michael Moore has publicly called on Hollywood actor Matt Damon to run for US president in 2012, after praising him for taking a 'courageous' stand on key political issues.

The 'Bourne Identity' star has recently voiced his disgust at the way politicians stalled on a deal to raise the US national debt ceiling.

He also joined a teachers' protest in Washington, last month to rally against standardized testing.

Damon's outspoken behaviour has convinced Moore that he would be an ideal candidate for the Democrats to run for office, and win, in 2012 Presidential elections, Express.co.uk reports.

"I think that he's been very courageous and not caring about who he offends by coming out and saying the things that need to be said here," Moore said during an online discussion.

"If you wanna win, the Republicans have certainly shown the way that when you run someone who is popular you win; sometimes even when you run an actor, you win," he said.

"I only throw his name out there because I'd like us to start thinking that way," he added. (ANI)

The voters in this country are all about "Is he good looking?" "Is he black?" "Is he hip?" So, Michael Moore loses on all accounts. ESPECIALLY the first ... that man is FUGLY!!!!!

The US is becoming a worldwide laughingstock... no money, no sense, no future.

United we stand..... Oh well, I guess we're going for the other option.

Sadly ... yes ...there goes the economy to inflation through monetization !

Michael Moore apparently has jumped off the Obama bandwagon, and thinks America needs an actor, with no political experience by the way, in the White House.

With the economy in the tank, and no end in sight do we need a trainee in the highest office?

Hell why not Jerry Springer, at least he was mayor of Cincinnati!!

Hell, if a moron like Ronnie Reagan could get elected to two terms, why not someone with actual brains like Matt Damon.

Your so called experienced political hacks are the one's that got your country into the mess it's in now. At least you would get a smidge of entertainment with an actor, couldn't be any worse than what you have now.

I'm Canadian, but you can't blame Obama, per say, for the damage done. Most of the damage done was in a war for oil started by Bush. American citizens don't help... Living out of their means always comes back to bite them in the ass when they start buying too much on credit and not enough on what they physically have

lol u guys act as if the president has any real power. The government is now owned by lobbyists and congress is beholden to them. The lobbyists work for the corporations, until something is done about them, the president's hands are tied cause Congress does the bidding of the lobbys.

Yeah that is wha tis needed, another actor recommended by a 'left wing nut" that is trying to influence the people just because he produces entertainment.
the presidency is not a movie and requires intelligent experienced people not someone that can imitate experience.
Everyone is entitled to an opion but really!!

Things will get better when people realize that becoming president is no longer a popularity contest. You need a leader who will make the right decisions for the nation, and not the popular ones that give a 'temporary happiness'.

I find the left wing wacko millionaire Michael "porky" Moore rather comical. He denigrates capitalism while doing his best to be a very rich capitalist. Porky tries to portray himself as one of the "regular" guys by wearing hand me downs he got at the second hand store. In reality he is one of America's most ardent millionaire capitalists. Moore is nothing more than a hypocritical non compos mentis liar.

That's what America needs, a president with zero political experience. Mr. Moore, you are an idiot.

In Ontario alone we spend 20million per year on testing kids in grades 3,6,9 and the grade 10 literacy test. We get three report cards a year at the elementary level and two at high school.

Given that, if teachers/parents cannot recognize if a child if falling behind we have a serious problem with the system.

There are thousands of kids on waiting lists needing to be tested, these are the kids that fall between the cracks and drop out of high school.

Testing is a waste of time and money, that could be put to better use.

Matt Damon is a likable guy alright, but if Obama of all people can't get things done,
how is an actor with no political experience going to fare? Being the President is not a position for on the job training.

Michael Moore needs to endorse someone with some political experience and not a fellow
      Hollywood millionaire.

matt damon for president, just shows how out of touch with reality moore is,what he needs to do is go make anouther fake documentry, stick to what your good at mike

Where's the love for Obama now? Michael Moore guaranteed Obama would be the greatest thing since sliced bread, bringing America together(race wise), creating millions of jobs, and pulling out of Afghanistan and Iraq almost immediately after he took office.

He knows, like millions of American's, Obama is a lame duck president that doesn't deserve another 4 years, but because somebody has" courageous views" doesn't necessarily make them qualified to be president.

Michael Moore's endorsement of Matt Damon for president is a stunt to stay in the news.

Come on folks, guys, girls, ladies and gentlemen, idiots and brainiacs..........the president has "some" power...moreso he is a figgurehead...do you really think, and god bless his soul, G Bush was a "statesman" a leader? come on now....George is not a bad guy as far as bad guys go...he was, as is Mr Obama, running little or nothing...when it comes to the country it is the Lobbists and the Congress as POOHBEAR stated....think about it. Who get's hired for a "job" that is available.....the one with the most experience usually, right? SO tell me where these guys got the experience to run a country and control it's monitary system that has an overall effect on the world. Hello? Not George Bush Jr....that's for sure, and not President Obama either......its a "machine" the machine runs on ---- change in the captain or not.........Obamma is a great guy, honest, smart, hard working and persistant...his hands are tied. They were tied by the last governance.
You blame him for what? not being tough enough on Healthcare? well if he was there would be riots and he would be ousted.ASAP.

Case in point if you allow him to do the right thing....Alberta Canada (Canadas Texas) Preimer Ralph Kline came into a mess politically, and he told the albertians we have to knuckle down for a few years and raise taxes and pay this bill off....which he did. and they all did. and after that he lowered taxes again, and ALberta is the richest province in canada now with trillions (or billions ) of dollars in the bank...... so what do you think has to happen in the USA? Spend more? or Stop spending.? Stop the wars.........stop the moon shorts mars etc...clean up your own backyard...............1st. but that's just my opinion and...

      and I could be wrong.....

Michael Moore has proven himself to be a liar of the highest order. Every one of his so called documentaries has been proven to contain deliberate falsehoods, aimed at leading people to conclusions that are wrong and even damaging! Anyone who seriously considers him as a source of credibility is delusional. So far the only people who think he is a credible source of information are the far left loons. This should not surprise anyone.

I really like Matt Damon but people have to realize that his star status is what gives hime the freedom to express his views. If he became President he would be much more restricted on saying his opinions. People would turn on Matt as soon as he couldn't follow up on the things he promised. Michael Moore makes his money by raising contraversy by his movies and by what he says. Your great country has given him that freedom whether we like to hear him or not.
