Missing Ottawa man didn't enable tracking

Ottawa police's latest lead has come up empty in their search for an Ottawa man who has been missing for two weeks.

Greg Etue, a well-known pharmacist and husband of CTV news anchor Carol Anne Meehan, was last seen Jan. 16. He was driving his 2008 Pontiac Montana van with a black storage box on top and the Ontario licence plate BCRV772.

Police now say the OnStar tracking technology installed in the car was never activated.

CBC News has also learned police used their airplane to fly over remote areas just south of Ottawa between the family's home and cottage.

They are also tracking Etue's credit and gas cards.

Etue, 56, has Multiple Sclerosis and has fought cancer for the past two years.

Ottawa police released a surveillance camera photo of the van last week in a renewed call for assistance, as well as a newer photo of Etue. His wife also wrote a message to her Facebook followers.

Etue is Caucasian, five foot nine and thin, with short grey hair and blue eyes.

He was last seen wearing a grey jacket, baseball cap and winter boots.

Anyone with information about Etue's whereabouts should call Ottawa police at 613-236-1222, ext. 2355.

He is hiding somewhere. I think he needs some time to think about everything alone. Maybe he is depressed and forgot to leave a note to the family. So many of us don't think properly very often in a specific situation. I am positive he is o'kay.

The colour of the van would be a big help as well. I don't think people are going to check every van in Eastern Ontario to see if it is a Montana and check the license plate. But, if they new it was, say, RED, then that might help out and cut down on the numbers of vans to be checked.
