Highway 401 traffic snarls after van rollover near Trafalgar

Ontario Provincial Police say a father and son were injured after a violent collision where their van rolled and flipped several times before coming to a stop.

OPP officers and paramedics raced to the scene around 5 a.m. and found the white Mercedes van, which had been transporting food products, on its roof.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the 15-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital with possibly spinal injuries following the crash.

His father, 56, was taken to hospital with less serious injuries.

Schmidt said its still unclear what caused the rollover, but said the OPP are hoping to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident.

The crash initially closed all eastbound lanes of Highway 401 between Trafalgar Road and Winston Churchill Boulevard in Mississauga, but two lanes have since reopened around 7:30 a.m. OPP officials expect the rest of the highway to reopen shortly.

Traffic remains heavy in the area.
