Moncton man charged after child porn bust

A 51-year-old Moncton man was charged with one count of possession of child pornography on Thursday, a day after the New Brunswick RCMP made a major bust.

Douglas Stewart was one of four people arrested on Wednesday during several police searches across the province.

RCMP say millions of images of child pornography were seized from computer equipment at his home.

Stewart appeared in a Moncton court on Thursday morning to face the charge. The Crown objected to Stewart's release.

The Moncton man will remain in custody until a bail hearing on Monday.

Two other men and a male under the age of 18 were also arrested in Havelock, Dumfries and Grand Bay-Westfield.

They were released on the condition that they appear in court at a later date.

Police say it's possible there will be additional charges involving Stewart and others.

The arrests come as part of Operation J Treasures, an ongoing investigation into peer-to-peer computer file sharing of child sexual abuse images in the province, which began in November 2010.

The Atlantic Region Integrated Technical Crime Unit, Codiac Regional RCMP, Fredericton Police Force, the National Child Exploitation Co-ordination Centre and members of other RCMP districts throughout the province assisted in the investigation.
