Mother of kids killed in Vaughan crash wants tougher penalties for drunk drivers
The Ontario mother who lost her three children and father in a horrific weekend three-vehicle crash signed an online petition Wednesday that calls for tougher penalties for impaired drivers.
Jennifer Neville-Lake's three children — Daniel 9, Harrison (Harry) 5, and Milly, 2 — and father, Garry Neville, 65, were all killed when the van they were travelling in was struck by an SUV at an intersection in Vaughan, Ont., north of Toronto.
The children's grandmother and great-grandmother were also in the van but survived the crash and are recovering in hospital.
Marco Muzzo, 29, faces 18 charges in connection with the crash, including four counts of impaired driving causing death.
Neville-Lake was at home and learned of the crash while watching a TV news report. She recognized her van in the news footage and called police.
In a Facebook post Wednesday, Neville-Lake listed "Daddy, Harrybug, Milly-boo and DW" as her reasons for signing the petition, which as of noon Wednesday had more than 15,000 signatures.
Muzzo is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
