Northern Manitoba cocaine bust nets arrests

Nine adults have been arrested this week as part of Project Describe, an RCMP investigation into cocaine trafficking in northern Manitoba.

Seven people from the Opaskwayak Cree Nation and two from The Pas, Man., face charges drug trafficking and other offences, RCMP announced Friday.

Police say they have issued an arrest warrant for a 21-year-old Winnipeg man.

Officers seized more than 18 ounces of cocaine as well as some ecstasy during the investigation, which started in October 2013 and targeted street-level drug trafficking in The Pas and the nearby Opaskwayak Cree Nation.

The seven arrested individuals appeared in provincial court in The Pas on Tuesday. Some have been released on their own recognizance, while others remain in custody, according to police.

RCMP are asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of the Winnipeg suspect, Matthew Kyle Ost, to contact investigators.
