An Opel employee works on the assembling of an Astra car at the company plant in Bochum, 2007. The government said on Wednesday it would work closely with General Motors after the US automaker scrapped an on-again, off-again plan to sell its big European division, Opel, that had triggered a political and diplomatic controversy.
