File photo shows two German soldiers standing nearby a Tornado attack aircraft in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif. Afghan troops and NATO war jets have pounded insurgents during a 'fierce battle' in southern Afghanistan, killing 17 rebels, the defence ministry has said.
