Hull-born film director Philippe Falardeau returned to Ottawa Monday to screen his new film Monsieur Lazhar at the National Arts Centre.
The film, which tells the story of an Algerian immigrant who is hired to replace an elementary school teacher who tragically died, is vying for best foreign-language film at this year’s Oscars. The award show will air on Feb. 26.
Two child actors from the film, Sophie Nélisse and Émilien Néron, and James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, attended the screening in Ottawa.
Moore and Telefilm Canada hosted the screening.
