    Photo radar gripes spur meeting

    A group of Winnipeggers frustrated with what they say are unfair tickets, issued using photo radar, are meeting to plot strategy.

    People associated with the group, dubbed Wise-Up Winnipeg, say more than 700 citizens have contacted them, claiming they were unfairly ticketed for speeding near Grant Avenue and Nathaniel Street.

    Police have said they are confident the tickets relate to valid infractions.

    But Todd Dube claims metal objects along Grant Avenue can produce unreliable radar readings.

    "It is lined with light standards, fire hydrants and metal poles," Dube said. "And you simply don't shoot radar when you have metallic objects between the point of origin, and the target."

    The group plans to pursue a test case in the courts, in an effort to get all photo radar tickets linked to the area thrown out.

    The Saturday meeting was designed to provide information for other ticket holders on the court challenge.
