Huge wildfire in Yosemite National Park threatens thousands of homes
A state of emergency has been called after a ferocious wildfire burning in and around Yosemite National Park forced thousands from their homes and scorched 160,000 acres of dry, Californian earth. At least 4,000 firefighters have tackled the blaze since it started August 17. Most of Yosemite National Park remains open but tourists have started to flee and local residents have been evacuated. Some 4,500 homes are threatened.
