Police looking for thief who stole $50K in silver coins, bars

Police are looking for someone who cracked into a safe and stole two suitcases filled with silver Canadian coins and bars worth about $50,000, Ontario Provincial Police say.

It happened on May 9 in Admaston/Bromley Township, southeast of Pembroke, Ont.

Between 12 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., someone entered a garage on Highway 132 and gained access to a safe, OPP said in a media release issued Tuesday.

The stolen items include:

- Two metallic box suitcases. One contained 12 trays of 24 Olympic coins, and the other contained coins depicting "various animals and insects," OPP said.

- Two monster boxes, one yellow and one blue. One contained silver coins with various animals printed on them, and the other contained silver bars.
